the shetland breed is considered as an easy going and social
breed.
Did
you know that the shetland pony breed has not changed a lot iin
appearance, but is one of the oldest breeds left today.
Some
wild ponies have shetland blood in them, so their thick coats,
manes and tails are important in cold blizzards and bad weather.
There
are two different types of of Shetland ponies. One that you quite
often see is the 'miniature cart horse' kind of shetland, and
the other is the actual 'pony', (these are less heavily built). The
lighter shetland is the original style of shetland.
In
appearance, they have a muscular neck, a fairly small head, and
quite a broad back, deepening through the girth and withers.
