Shire Horses

Shire horses were used to pull the ploughs when we didn't have machinery.

Shire horses are a type of heavy horse. Their hooves are bigger and have alot more hair hanging down over the hoof, than a pony or small horse.

Reaching a height of 18hh, mahes the shire horse one of the biggest horses around.

On average Shire horses weigh about 1 tonne.

Shires mainly come in the following colours: bay, brown, grey and black.

Shire horses are mainly used for either showing or heavy draft work involving machinary.

One of the greatest horses ao medieval times; the Old English Black Horse is considered to be an ancestor of the shire horse!

Did you know shire horses are strong enough to move a weight that is 5 times their own weight.
