Wild Cats In Guernsey
On my recent trip to Guernsey (in the Channel Islands) I spotted what I believe to be a wild cat in the marshy parts near Cobo Bay beach. I was walking through the grassland when I saw movement ahead, slowing down I could see a cat, no bigger than a domestic pussycat. The animal blended in with its surroundinges extremely well being a sandy colour with darker markings, resembling a miature lynx.
At first I though it was a pet cat but after watching it for a while it seemed not to be acting like one as it was very wary of me and kept looking around all nervously. When it saw me it retreated to a long way then very suddenly ran straight accross my path moving at an astonishing speed.
It then proceeded to clean itself at a safe distance before walking away.
This is a video made up of shorter clips that I got of the wild/feral cat.
The cat’s fur was very spiky and course and didn’t look at all like a pet cat’s fur would.
It is possible that this cat is a feral cat or stray pet cat that is not use to humans but it is likely to be a wild cat, what with the re-introducing of many predators, both accident and intentional, into the wild.
