Royal Python
The Royal Python, Python Regius, or Ball Python as it’s called in America belongs to the family ‘Boidae’. It is quite a small species of snake.
In appearance this snake is generally completely brown or black with irregular patches of brown or grey on its body.  This snake often tends to curl up in ball, thus the American’s name for this snake of ‘Ball Python’.
The Royal Python originated from West Africa and can still be found in the wild there today.
The general size for this snake is around 3-5 feet however the females can sometimes grow up to 6 feet in length!
Royal Pythons can live over 20 years so if you’re thinking about getting one as a pet think about looking after it in the long term too. The eldest one recorded lived to a remarkable age of over 50 years!
Here’s a video I found on YouTube about the Royal Python/Ball Python.
